PROMISED REFUND NOT RECEIVED

Authorhouse - PROMISED REFUND NOT RECEIVED
In trying to make the arrangements for the marketing of my e-book version of my book, I had numerous unsuccessful conversations with a man who sounded drunk, who appeared to be reading from a script and who would not let me speak to a supervisor, after I had made numerous complaints. I eventually was told, firstly, that I was not entitled to a refund; then this was corrected, in writing, and a refund promised, then confirmation sent to me that the refund was paid and I still have not received it. Latest email below says they are aware of my situation and reprocessing the refund. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A BANK TRANSFER FOR GOODNESS SAKE? I have been promised a refund in respect of services paid for and not provided. I have been waiting since the 6th August. Any ideas who the CEO is or who I should contact to get my money back? Ah, the telltale "grammar" of "Paul from Wichita", but he's really Raj from India.

"I am interested in most quickly helping you to resolve this more troublesome situation".

Red flag there. One suggestion: Try looking the company up on LinkedIn and see what contact information you can find there.

I am willing to go on TV about this. I spent over 2k to get my book published. No royalties. Emails quickly dried up after all money was spent. I wish I checked out Author house before investing. They're clearly scamming aspiring authors! Only after angry email did I get a 0.57p check!!!!

I rote Charlie and the ice dragon. The secret realm. Being dyslexic I wanted mostly spell and grammar check along with editing which I was allowed to believe this was what I would receive. I have always made clear to you staff which has now become verbally violent. When you are convinced to be pro edited by one of your staff. I Paid for it to go to the best critics as you advised. Done paid fore but an editor how lets his dyslexic clients work to go forward with grammar and spelling problems I have, perhaps I should get contact them and ask for a re-view of me and your so called premium editors. A very charming man said he could put my poetry into two books to start with and it would make a six figure sum. I am doing this because I love writing poetry and love giving to charity.

I would have been better just splitting the £7,630 to the charities of my choice instead of to them. The charities of my choice are British Heart Foundation, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Macmillan Cancer Support, Mersey Region Epilepsy Association and Diabetes Research.

WARNING - Authorhouse Selling Private Information

Since July 2014 Authorhouse has changed its Terms and Conditions. Section 6.2 states that the Author consents to having private information publicly displayed. Yet when questioning they say they would not reveal private information, only author name, book title and whatever we allow for marketing, which contradicts the statement. Common sense - why include such a statement. Established Author house plans to sell authors private information to other companies - of which these companies more likely will contact and see what else can be squeezed out of us authors when we merely want to do what we love and that is write and share to the world!

The logic is very simple dear. Publishing a book is not for free.

Wake up. Writing a book is never enough to be published.

So as to say that success is not free. You have to work for it.

Ripped Off!

Author House self published my book "Dream Traveler" in 2006 and I have only been only been paid $8.00 in royalty checks for two books sold. When I have tried to cancel my contract with them they told me that there will always be a remainder of two books available for purchase. When I told them to take my book off Amazon they said that Amazon printed their own copies separate from Author House and then gave them their percentage, that they always have two copies available so it could take a long time for my book to come off Amazon or Author House. I said if I have only sold two books then how is it that my book is in the top ten best sellers on Amazon? And how is it that over 100 people I know personally have purchased my book? So another words dealing with Author House is an ongoing nightmare and will never end. This corporation is massive with companies all over the globe. They are the prime example of greed and unscrupulous business practice with a ugly twist of manipulation. Hopefully one day someone will shut them down. If you are an attorney or have a lawsuit going please against Author Houser contact me. Anacharvelle@***.com

I was told my book would be published, this woman said she would be with me all the time and have printers etc. Background sounded odd kept wanting me to pay would not give her any details.

Sounded to good to be true. Found out it's not all it's cracked up to be. She never got a penny out of me and never will.

They did not have an address in the U.K and that's what got me. Have since reported AuthorHouse.

Amazed at what I am reading here

I am amazed at what I am reading here. Not disputing anyone's word because I don't know anyone's personal experience other than what is written here. Author House has done a pretty good job for me, all things considered, except I can't understand half of what their foreign speaking reps says; this is a always a good excuse to hang up the phone. My royalty checks still come after 10 years and I buy some on occasion to sell at local events. I never expected to get rich off my first effort at writing but I have been relatively pleased with Author House.

AuthorHouse stole $4,000

AuthorHouse has stolen from me. I paid them $4,000 in late November, 2013 to edit my manuscript, and until this day they have not delivered anything. I filed a claim for credit with American Express, but the company responded that I had violated their cancellation policy. In other words, they claim that I cancelled a contract just because I was trying to get my money back! It has been impossible to talk to anyone; the account representative no longer answers the telephone calls. Can they get away with keeping my money without delivering the services I contracted for? Is this not blatant theft?

Be careful of claims that they don't set deadlines for sending in manuscripts and pressure to pay ridiculous amounts of money to publish them. Something must be wrong for them to ask for money.

Ovidio Diaz

On April 9th, as a result of claim I placed with the BBB, the company came back with an offer to refund me 90% of the fee I paid, as they realized that they had no case. I accepted the offer because I need the money and lawyers would cost more.

However, I ended up paying $400 for nothing and I have yet to see the money refunded. I write to them every week and they keep telling me that they're waiting for their bank to credit back the money that I paid to them!

As a result of all of this, they get to keep my money for five months and I still have to pay them $400 for nothing!

Hi,

Have exactly the same problem, I sent them $5000 for the Hollywood Treatment. What a joke, they make stiff up, then when you get your screenplay back anyone could have written it.

When you try to make changes they are not interested and it takes 3/4 times as long as they said it would.

I am English and have filed a legal case against them with the local District Attorney. A to Zee Across America.

Hi,

Yes, it is theft, and as a writer and editor, I often hear of these upstart companies doing just what you've described. It's awful too, especially after working so darn hard on writing a book.

I just was logging into this site to post my complaint on being debited $79.00 by Redbox dvd rental kiosks and I just happened onto your post. I'm sorry you got ripped off. That's terrible! I am an editor, and recently retired so I edit in my spare time just to keep my brain active.

I also write and publish books myself.

I've taken and gotten A's in 34 English classes during my 14 years of college. I do edit for only $7.00 per 1000 words, which is half the going rate for editors. I also do final Proof Reads for $4.00 per 1000 words as well.

I will find ALL errors and spelling mistakes, or the 'our' versus 'hour' type of errors so common to eBook self publishers. I can honestly say, I do know English and Grammar darn near inside and out.

I've edited nearly all genre's as well, except for Supernatural. I just can't stay focused on that genre.

I know well, and do use MS Word 2013, Track Changes, etc etc. I've been using MS Word since it first came out. I could buy a nice used motorhome for what I've spent on Word software. I have also studied in 3 classes in Writing Theory using Blackwell's Guide to Writing Theory, and the other 3 classes used John Hopkins Guide to Literary Theory and Criticism.

Give me a chance. I can save you money, and you won't get screwed either. Turn around time is usually dependent on wordcount. 30-40,000 words takes less than 10 days and 100-110,000 takes about 2.5 weeks for a good first edit.

A second edit is usually much quicker, and I charge by time at that point. I price fairly, and don't gouge writers like so many other editors will do. Sometimes turn around time is less, sometimes more, depending on the writer's needs and writing skills. Let me know, misscus1951 at gmail dot com.

Thank you, and best of luck getting your money back from those shysters!

I hope you do. Phyllis Anne http://www.pissedconsumer.com/reviews-by-company/authorhouse/authorhouse-stole-4-000-20****2548****.html# (on Facebook as Phyllis Anne also, but it says I live out of country, but I don't and FB won't fix it.)

If they gave you contract copies and certain paper work when you paid, you should be able to present that in court and get your money back.

Tax on royalties

My god when I read that comment it's as though I had written it. As from last year I also had my royalties taxed at 30%. I have now started the long process of reclaiming this tax, apparently it will take me 10 weeks just to get a US tax number, only then can I start the procedure to actually reclaim the tax. What a cheek that a country that I have never even been to can grab 30% of my very tiny royalties, without any regard for expenses. And while I'm at it, on my royaltie statement I noticed my book is sold at anything upto £9.49 out of which I receive only 57p. Who gets the lions share of the money.

Are you receiving a 30% tax reduction on ebook royalties or on printed paperback versions? You should not be taxed on printed books but ebooks can be taxed 30% of which I have explained below.

With KDP and Smashwords you can be subject to a 30% tax withholding until you prove that you are not a US citizen.

However all you need is an EIN number, if you call the IRS in the US at 11:00am you can obtain an EIN over the phone immediately after answering a few questions. You should also be able to submit your NI number if you are an individual or a VAT number if you are a registered company.

You should not be subject to a 30% tax on printed published material. Retailers should take about 25% of the retail price as their cut and the price of printing an individual book will come out of the retail price also. However unit costs of books are subject to a number of factors such as page count, internal colour space (Full colour or black and white), page dimensions etc.

A quick scope on the author house website and I can't find anything about royalties, which rings alarm bells for me.

If I knew more about your book I could expose what you should be making. If you'd like to know any more about processes and royalties you should be receiving, please feel free to get in touch with me at jay@***.co.uk

Forward your complain to the government! Tax collection is beyond AuthorHouse's power.

Give your book exposure. Market your book.

Get a publicist. Spread the word out just before Holiday book buying season and earn Royalties from your book!

I have published a book with authorhouse and was conned and cheated

I wrote a book with authorhouse and I feel ripped of by them.

No one can tell me how many book I have sold, no one can tell me about my royalities, but they have some slimily book consultion calling me to buy more of my own books to promote myself. The problem with that is that I have paid they a large amount of money to promote my book, but they failed to so correctly.

Authorhouse are the criminals and *** actists and should be investigated. Authorhouse also have soft talking women that sweet talk you into parting with your savings.

When I spoke to the people at authorhouse, I was spoken to like I was an ***, which I find de-meaning, especially coming from parasites and rats

AuthorHouse is a CRIMINAL company

Author House is a CRIMINAL company which steals authors` money. Many of them are trained psychics, so they try to hypnotize authors during phone conversations. I noticed that they are reading my e-mails in real time, while I`m composing them; also they are monitoring all websites which I`m visiting. Are they a secret service company? It will not surprise me if they are deleting e-mails which authors send to other publishing houses. They have hundreds of complains from the authors and many times were brought to court. How come they are still working and keep stealing authors money? Somebody in the government must be protecting them. I`m Aslan Dzitiev, author of the book The Natural Laws of Human Life (2013). In my case they deliberately hid the book from people, so nobody could see and buy it. I lost $5000 with them. You can see the book at: sites.google.com/site/aslandzitiev
